Shoulder impingement.Stage 3
Goal
* Shoulder impingement describes abnormal pressure from the shoulder blade (Scapula) on 1 of the tendons and or the bursa (small bag of fluid) that sits between the scapula and the arm.
* The Rotator Cuff (four muscles around the shoulder joint) are the tendons affected.
* Pain is usually noticeable when the affected arm is lifted. If untreated this condition often goes on to cause impaired joint mobility, a torn rotator cuff, bursitis and/or a debilitating loss of shoulder strength.
* Management involves anti-inflammatory medications and enforced rest. Physiotherapy management involves improving muscle balance to stop the impingement and building up general shoulder strength.
